1982-83 was a very interesting time for me. I was five going, on six and because I was a little pup, time seemed to run together, the only real clear division of time was daylight, dark and of course Saturdays. Kindergarten was the newest thing in my life, that was until Christmas came around and my mom gave me my most beloved toys, He-Man and his crew entered my life. I clearly remember that I got the first few figures, Castle Grayskull, Battle Cat and Panthor at the same time. So obviously mom was buying them as they came out and was waiting until Christmas to spring them on me.
He-Man and companions was not just a piece of plastic for me, he was a champion, a hero, and a example for me to follow. While Mom might have thought that she was getting the new fad for her oddball son, she was really setting a pattern of beliefs, morals, and giving me a new set of friends and a fantastic world to seek adventure in. I cannot tell you the amount of surprise and delight that occurred to me when I was walking through the local Wal-Mart with a friend one night after work and saw a familiar face peeking out of a clear plastic package seventeen years later. Welcome back old friends, welcome home.
